Michael, a senior vice president with NETZEL GRIGSBY ASSOCIATES, INC., has more than 28 years of non-profit administration and fundraising experience through his work at the American Heart Association, American Social Health Association, University of San Francisco, San Mateo County Hospitals and Clinics, and the San Mateo County Department of Public Health.
Michael’s experience includes capital campaigns; goal feasibility studies; campaign readiness assessments; financial development audits; board and staff development; major gifts; annual giving; strategic planning; marketing; foundation and corporate gifts; grant writing; executive searches; focus group facilitation; fellowship and grants administration; executive coaching; and multi-ethnic and LGBT cultural diversity training. Michael has led workshops on various aspects of nonprofit administration at numerous local, national and international conferences and major universities.
While at the American Social Health Association, Michael established the nation’s leading health hotline—the National AIDS Hotline. He served as clinic manager at the San Mateo County Health Center, then later as CEO for the ACRC, Northern California's leading community-based research, education, outreach, case management and food services organization. As Vice President of Research for the American Heart Association’s Western States Affiliate, Michael coordinated scientific review for thousands of research applications, and managed $90 million in new and continuing fellowship and grant awards.
Michael graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor’s in Organization Behavior and a Masters in Human Resources and Organization Development. He was a faculty member of the University of San Francisco's Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management where he taught fundraising and served as organizational project advisor for students in the Development Director and Executive Director Certificate Programs.
Michael serves on the board of directors for the Association of Fundraising Professionals Golden Gate Chapter and is a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. Michael is also an accomplished musician and serves as president of the West Coast Songwriters Association. |
