Santa Barbara

John, a vice president with NETZEL GRIGSBY ASSOCIATES, INC., has over 30 years of experience in nonprofit management and fund development. He has directed many successful annual giving and capital campaigns and his experienced perspective has led his clients to success.

Most Recently, John has assisted a variety of nonprofits with their fundraising and organizational planning issues, including Santa Barbara City College, Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, the Girl Scouts, Ronald McDonald Houses, Storyteller Children’s Center, and Habitat for Humanity.

As the President and CEO of the Channel Islands YMCA in Santa Barbara California, John provided leadership for three separate capital campaigns raising $14.6 million. Those included a $5.3 million campaign for a new YMCA facility in the Santa Ynez Valley, a $4 million renovation of the Santa Barbara YMCA, and a $5.3 million new YMCA facility in Camarillo. During the same time period, annual fundraising increased by 78% to $1.3 million. John has had extensive experience in strategic planning, facility construction and renovations, public relations, marketing, board development, and community collaborations.

John’s volunteer activities have included membership in Rotary International, having served as President of two different clubs, Santa Barbara County United Way, numerous nonprofit boards including CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) and the Santa Barbara Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Fighting Back Steering Committee. John has twice been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary’s highest recognition.

John earned his bachelors degree in Sociology from Kutztown State College, Pennsylvania and Master of Education degree in Community Leadership and Development from Springfield College, Massachusetts.
